What I'm Good At

As I meditate on life and ponder what I do and where I'm going, I'm brought to a simple conclusion: God has given me gifts on purpose and it's my calling to use those gifts to honor Him.

When I lead worship at Sierra Vista Community Church I was at my prime.  It was then where I excelled I found out what I'm good at.  The only time in a job where I felt I 100% went above and beyond what was asked of me, the only time I put 100%+ of me into what I was doing, was when I was leading worship, preparing for the service and leading my colleagues and congregation.

I would receive the Bible Verses from my pastor mid-week and get an understanding of the message he would try to convey.  I then would read through the bible verses I prayed and would have songs come to mind.  I would then flip through my 2" three binder, alphabetized by letter, pull out a number of songs - a mix of slow & upbeat - and then piece together the order of service.  I would make sure to put the list together and sent it out to my band & AV team either through email, or an online worship planning website.  Going through these motions every week in preparation for Sunday's message are times that I go back to and cherish.

Leading Worship is what I'm good at.  Choosing the right songs is what I'm good at.  I love singing, I love playing guitar, I love worshiping God and more than any of this, I love leading people in worship so that they loose track of where they are and become fully vulnerable to God's love in that moment.  I love helping people draw near to their Savior, Redeemer & Friend.

1 Corinthians 12

12 Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed. You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were influenced and led astray to mute idols. Therefore I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.
There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.
Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues,[a] and to still another the interpretation of tongues.[b] 11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.

Still Dreaming

Well, here I am!

I auditioned to be a member of the worship band at a new church, which I wish to call my home church.  I played "I Will Go" by Desperation Band on my guitar and sang my heart out.  Well, they loved me!  They asked me to be a member of the band and that would soon be hearing from them regarding scheduling.  To put things into perspective; the church is very large and 2 services going on at the same time 2 times a day!  The band has many many members so scheduling & availability is everything!

My audition was the first weekend in April.  It is now the last week in July and I have not played with them one!  LOL.  I guess I understand that there are many musicians & singers who have been in the band before me but I just really want to play & sing and lead worship!  So, I am still waiting to be put into the schedule rotation.

In the mean time, I'm still looking for a position in a church that me and my husband can call home and where I can play music, sing to the Lord and lead worship to a congregation that is driving by their love of Jesus.

"The Best Job in the World"

Okay, I know I haven't blogged here for...oh dear a year a half, but I've been actively pursuing a career in my dream job.

My day job is unique and provides me with the opportunities to meet new and different people. I meet and talk with fire fighters every now and then, and the same resounding comment comes every one of them, "We're fire fighters, we have the best job in the world". I smile and listen in on their joys of the job and even the challenges, but why they're worth it. This phrase got me thinking... I want "The Best Job in the World"!!!!

As I ponder what the best job in the world would be for me, I always end up in the place I originally dreamed I'd be: being a musician, singing, song writing and worshipping God!

I play my guitar as often as I can. I write songs when I feel the words flooding from my head. I dream of what it will be like to one day do music as my full time career! That would be my Best Job in the World.
